This paper presents LifeWeb, an evolutionary model for the Web built on Life Design, a concept drawing on natural life, to give the Web a self-evolving capacity. The development of LifeWeb is explained in the context of current Web technology, giving insight into the evolution of various Document Type Definitions (DTDs) that are being produced in response to the needs of differing Web communities. These DTDs are made possible by the expressive power of Extensible Markup Language (XML) in defining the user's own tag sets. The paper also considers the evolution of supporting software and tools, and the leve of automation possible to support this process.
