Tackling Air Pollution Using Light Alloy

This 60 seconds video briefly describes the inspiration for the lab-scale development of a new lightweight alloy containing nano-sized coffee bean shaped particles that are the main cause to the improved mechanical and corrosion performance of the alloy. Special manufacturing practice, which involve controlled thermo-mechanical processing and heat treatments, was adapted to form this unique microstructure in the said alloy.

This new automotive alloy holds potential to replace heavy steel parts in a vehicle thereby reducing their weight. The weight reduction of a vehicle will improve its fuel efficiency and ultimately the CO₂ emission level leading to clean air.
