Renewable energy sources are abundant but these sources are intermittent and there is an urgent need to store their energy. Thermal batteries are a recent development in which surplus energy from renewables can be stored for later, in materials called phase change materials. In my research, I am designing new phase change materials that can store large amounts of heat as they change their phase from solid to liquid. I am not only focusing on high-energy storage ability but also developing materials that are low-cost and environmentally friendly.
