My PhD research focuses on eczema, the most burdensome skin disease globally. Eczema symptoms such as dry skin and itchiness often begin in childhood, causing considerable discomfort, visible disfigurement, and significant mental distress. Current treatments rely on moisturizers, but these require frequent reapplication as they dry out quickly and can be removed by clothing or sweat.

My PhD project addresses these limitations by developing a skin patch for eczema. This patch protects against scratching, lasts up to 24 hours, and provides continuous skin hydration. Furthermore, my project aims to support a globally sustainable future by using natural and/or sustainable raw materials for the patch fabrication. These materials are environmentally friendly, even after degradation, and are likely to have a low environmental impact if commercialised.
