Recommendation 58 of the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence calls for Victoria Police to trial and evaluate the use of body worn cameras (BWCs) to digitally record evidence- in-chief statements of family violence victims. Although many Australian and international jurisdictions have trialled police BWCs, the evidence base for the effectiveness of police BWCs to gather recorded video evidence is still in its infancy. This project brief draws together findings from a range of studies, including police BWC general duties literature, to provide an overview of current knowledge of police BWCs and the collection of video- recorded evidence in the context of family violence.
