This score video features the composer photograph for Rubble in an abstracted form, where I trace a plastimoss image with my hands. The image was printed out onto a large backdrop [841mm x 2202mm], allowing me to physically engage with it.

Videographer Angus Kirby filmed this process in my home studio, where the plastimoss backdrop was captured through a series of close-up shots, filmed, photographed, and later digitally transformed into an extended life-size version in post-editing. By exaggerating its scale, the tactile presence of the image becomes heightened in the video.

Although the enlarged banner remains two-dimensional, the retracing process became a site of imagined tactility, prompting me to ‘feel’ and explore the qualities of its surface: the delicate moss, the brittleness of the rock, the granular microplastics, the acrylic paint textures and the crumpled foil.

The video begins to play in the second half of the work, when I improvise and respond to the movement of my hands on video, mirroring this process via tactile transducer speakers on the instrument.

Photography, Design: Helen Svoboda
Videography, Editing: Angus Kirby
