This reports is an evaluation of two iterations of the Spirit of Transformation program (herein SoT) carried out by the Women's Spirit Project (WSP) in 2023. The program is a health, fitness and wellbeing initiative run by volunteer women, for women, to date in Boonwurrung/Bunurong Country, Australia. The report includes the background, methodology, findings and recommendations of the evaluation. This program that aims to empower vulnerable women using a holistic place-based approach to fitness, health and wellbeing is significant in its effects, to participants at different levels of engagement, including volunteer mentors and facilitators, and beyond the scheduled time of the eleven/twelve-week program. It creates a safe and welcoming space, a support network, and enhances participant awareness of their disempowerment with strategies to navigate the challenging situations in their lives. As the network grows in strength and impact there are signals that WSP has value in challenging broader social issues but must be assured significant and long-term funding for expansion, upscaling, deeper insights, and sustainability.
