Translating a text into English not only renders the text accessible to new linguistic audiences, but also can expose issues linked to processes of language transition, both historical and on-going. In poetry collections, thanks to the diversity of structural and prosodic techniques available to the writer, there is additional potential for layers of critical engagement with translation and its impacts to be presented. Further complexity can be invoked when the original poet is also the translator.
