This article provides a small-scale empirical study which interrogates the restorative justice dialogue underpinning the Youth Justice Group Conferencing Program (YJGCP) in Victoria. Personal refl ections collected from interviews suggest that participants in the YJGCP should be provided with information giving them a realistic understanding of the outcomes which restorative processes might deliver. The article argues that the YJGCP would be well served by a common narrative that is comprehensively understood by all service-providers and stakeholders to ensure that participants are given a meaningful understanding of the program, its goals and likely outcomes.
