The future population and the future labour force

Even with nil net migration and 'hypothetically below replacement fertility' Australia's population would continue to grow until 2032. higher migration would add substantially more people, with very little effect on the age structure. The labour-force dependency ratio will remain lower than the 1991 figure until 2011 and, if participation rates increase, may not rise after that date. Copyright. Monash University and the author/s
