The Hidden Treasures of Buddhist Kashgar

The paper explores the cultural and economic importance of the oasis town of Kashgar, in Xinjiang, western China. We ask why, given the historical importance of this town, has it been ignored in recent times while other Silk Road towns have attracted so much research and global attention, including tourism.
