What are the implications of Australia’s population growth as far as water is concerned? Population size and growth affect water supplies throughout the country but they matter more in some regions than others. Cities obviously need more water as their populations grow. However, in rural areas the issue is not population growth but how populations will deal with likely declines in future water availability. Copyright. Monash University and the author/s
