Everyone is familiar with déjà vu. "It feels like I have been here before." Or, "have I not met you before?" Or, "it is as if I knew this all along." Déjà vu is commonly regarded as an uncanny phenomenon, whereby that which has in fact never happened is remembered. For this contentless recollection, emphasis is usually placed upon the way in which memory is generated of an experience which never took place.
