Research into managerial remuneration in the Australian welfare sector is embryonic. This study profiles managerial remuneration practices, packages and policies in welfare organisations. The findings reveal a range of opinions, attitudes and experiences relating to managerial rewards. Categories and theories are developed around the issues of: attraction to welfare organisations, taxation (Fringe Benefit Tax [FBT]), salaries paid, bonuses, and performance-based rewards, and non-cash benefits and their roles in attraction, retention, and motivation
