Billions of dollars will be required to build a fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) network. This will require prices high enough to justify the investment, but low enough to make services affordable to end-users. This is the quest for Goldilocks prices. The focus of this paper is on regulated access prices because the current access pricing regime is clearly broken. A number of possible solutions for the FTTN are examined. Copyright 2008 John de Ridder. No part of this article may be reproduced by any means without the written consent of the publisher.
