Many authors and policy makers assume that girls and women are a disadvantaged group in education. This was once true. By the 1990s, however, female students had not only caught up with males; on a number of indicators they had surpassed them. This success in overcoming disadvantage in higher education should transfer to overcoming some of the barriers encountered by women In the workforce. Copyright. Monash University and the author/s
