The architects of European integration expected that enhanced economic growth and efficiency would flow from the single market reforms of 1992. It is reasonable to assume that companies resident in Europe during the integration period would face enhanced competition, new threats and opportunities. A survey of Australian manufacturers based in Britain, however, indicated that the impact of the reforms would be marginal. The survey responses are outlined in the paper.
