Distributed electricity generation has the potential to deliver sustainability benefits through dramatically increasing energy efficiency, as well as through encouraging the adoption of renewables. It is not without its problems however: two of the largest are the limited utility of the small amounts of power generated, and the lack of economic incentive to invest in small generators. This work discusses an electricity market, using broadband communications as its information infrastructure, specifically designed to make electricity generated by households and offices an attractive source of revenue and a viable source of power.
