East European countries and China are in transition to a market economy. Understanding transitional economy implies a specific approach to private property rights from the point of view of the individual and ownership, financial and banking systems, and legal regulation. China's transition to a market economy differs from the transition of countries in the former Soviet block and the former Yugoslavia. The aim of this paper is to stress the similarities and differences.
