AIDS prevention

1 Decmber - World AIDS Day

What is AIDS?
AIDS is the transliteration of the English name (original English starts) AIDS (orignial English ends), the full name is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, abbreviated as AIDS. It is a disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection that destroys the entire human immune system, and eventually the human body loses its resistance to various diseases and leads to death. The disease spreads rapidly, with a mortality rate of nearly 100%. So far, there are no specific treatment drugs and vaccines in the world, but AIDS can be prevented.

What are the routes of transmission of AIDS?
HIV is mainly found in the blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk, saliva, tears and urine of AIDS infected people. At present, there are three routes of HIV transmission with reliable evidence: sexual contact, blood and mother-to-child transmission.

Who is susceptible to HIV infection?
People who are susceptible to HIV infection are called high-risk groups. The following groups are at high risk of contracting AIDS.
1. Men who are gay and bisexual.
2. Intravenous drug addicts (such as heroin, cocaine, etc.).
3. Import blood and blood products contaminated by HIV.
4. Using public contaminated syringes or needles may be infected with AIDS.
5. Children born to HIV-infected mothers.
6. Prostitution and whoring.
7. People who have paid blood (plasma) donations.

What behaviors don't spread AIDS?

Shaking hands, hugging, courteous kissing, using public tableware, using public office supplies, telephones, toilets, swimming pools and other public facilities, coughing, sneezing and mosquito bites do not transmit AIDS.

How to check for AIDS?

AIDS is confirmed by serum immunodiagnosis, and the diagnosis is often made by detecting whether the antibody in the patient's serum is positive by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. If you have the above-mentioned high-risk behaviors, you can go to the local Center for Disease Control and Prevention for free consultation and testing services.

How do you treat people living with HIV around you?

People living with HIV can work and study with healthy people. AIDS has limited routes of transmission and poses no threat to their friends and neighbors, and we should not fear or avoid them. In order to protect the rights of people living with HIV, we should protect their privacy and not disclose their identities.

What is the national policy of "Four Exemptions and One Care"?

The state implements free voluntary counseling and testing for AIDS; free antiretroviral treatment for farmers and AIDS patients in urban with financial difficulties; free schooling for orphans of AIDS patients; free HIV counselling, screening and antiviral drug treatment for pregnant women.

Where to go for consultation and testing?

As long as you provide your true personal information, you can go to the following VCTs to receive free counseling and HIV antibody primary screening services.
