Taken during October 1969 this ritual shows a Lama of Tarakot on southern Dolpo (west Nepal) making effigy figures of barley-flour dough. They can be seen to his left side on the ground. These are coated with red dye and act as substitutes for human sacrifices. There had been a death in Tarakot recently and this Lama spent several days in prayer before creating the blessed effigies and placing them on his shrine.
