Anna McMichael, ‘Music Published by W.H. Paling & Co. from 1890 to 1900 Held in Australian Public Libraries.’

<p dir="ltr">This dataset of 373 items is based on an online library search of all music published by Palings in the 1890s. Over one-half of composers of published loose item sheet music were Australian or resident in Australia and 20% were women; the latter mostly Australian women who composed popular short pieces in the parlour music genre.</p><p dir="ltr">Of the 305 sheet music items, 53% were solo or duo piano music, 39% were songs for voice and piano, and the remaining 8% were assorted works such as choral and brass band music.</p><p dir="ltr">Many thanks to Jacqueline Waylen (Liason Librarian, Monash University) for her help with compiling this database.</p>
