Conference paper presented at the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100-1800) Fire Stories Conference, Melbourne University 2013. The paper outlines a creative, 'person-as-environment' approach to bushfire recovery. It draws upon the concepts of solastalgia and soliphilia to encourage personal and community reflection with the aim of assisting people to restore a sense of home, place and identity in a vastly changed landscape.
