Although growing numbers of social scientists now research issues relating to digitisation and schools, their work tends to get overlooked in the hype that surrounds this area. This chapter shows how research within the social sciences can offer valuable insights to assist teachers, school leaders, and others in adopting more balanced and realistic approaches to digitalisation. The chapter highlights social science perspectives on various topics ranging from screen-time and digital cheating through to personalised learning and digital skills. All told, the chapter shows how insights and arguments around digitisation from the social sciences can give teachers valuable alternate perspectives to the overly simplified accounts that that often drive popular and political discussions of digitisation and schools.
