World Wrestling Entrepreneur: Vince McMahon and media entrepreneurialism

Using a case study of World Wrestling Entertainment chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon, this thesis examines the relationship between media and contemporary understandings of entrepreneurialism. The thesis analyses what McMahon reveals about the media entrepreneur’s function and power. It presents the historical, cultural and political dimensions of McMahon as a media entrepreneur, and the degree and function of a self-mythologisation that stems from his control of media production, infrastructure and performance. The thesis argues that McMahon’s entrepreneurialism has not only influenced wrestling and media sport, but also connects to United States' politics through Donald Trump's election as president.
