The thesis examines the value of investigating a researcher’s own lived experiences for understanding the nature of the ideas, concepts, and theories that they develop. I argue that narrative writing practices allow for a coherent account of these experiences for the reader to better engage with and understand the research. The narrative structure of the thesis, which reconstructs the development of this idea, is itself a demonstration of this argument. This finding challenges ideas about traditional research practices and research writing, while contributing to a deeper understanding of concepts central to the cultural-historical theory of development.
