The flow of fluids past structures ranging from clarinet reeds to bridges can cause resonant interactions that in extreme cases can lead to destructive vibrations. The Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse in the 1940s is a classic example of the catastrophic destruction caused by flow-induced vibration. This thesis aims to understand the underlying principles of such vibrations for a basic three-dimensional body and provides effective methods to control them.
