This study investigated demographic characteristics, wellbeing, and motivations of 231 parents who home educate their children in Australia and a comparison group of 289 parents who do not. The analyses revealed that parents who home educate reported higher levels of wellbeing and a reduced impact of stress on their wellbeing. The most popular primary motivations were to educate a child without the structure of a school environment, to increase family bonds and to assist a child with an impairment or disability. This study informs policymakers and parents in the area of home education.
