This autoethnographic study investigated the lived experience of sea kayaking as a form of expeditionary practice. The project was positioned as a phenomenological narrative of one man’s adventure sea kayaking expedition during a 15-day crossing of Bass Strait, between the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Bass by Kayak, the resulting 6-part film series revealed the phasic nature of lived experiences. Moreover, it illuminated the unique contribution filmmaking and the reflective aftermath informed how stories are made, told and influence the cultural fabric of adventuring and expeditionary travel in an educational context.
