The Ethics of Interpretation: Toward Critique Without Judgment

Jacques Derrida delivered the first part of his essay, published in the Cardozo Law Review under the title "Force of Law: The 'Mystical Foundation of Authority'," at a colloquium on "Deconstruction and the Possibility of Justice," held at the Cardozo Law School in 1989. Derrida begins his key- note address in what we might call his "signature" style by questioning the title under which he has been called to speak.
