In this thesis, we develop the understanding of radiation diffusion in smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). Keeping in mind the main aim of the project, we, however, study all parts of the topic separately (SPH, diffusion, and radiation). We explore the accuracy of diffusion operators in SPH with different methods and kernels, study stability properties of methods for anisotropic diffusion, and experiment with various implementations of the radiation diffusion approximation. All the conclusions, which we draw for diffusion methods accuracy and stability in SPH, are applicable to a wide range of problems beyond astrophysics, as only the last part of this work is concentrated on the radiation approximation.
