NMR characterization of ion adsorption and dynamics in graphene-based microporous membranes

An understanding of ion adsorption and dynamics in microporous carbon is of fundamental interest for a wide array of applications, from supercapacitors to water desalination. With pore sizes in the nanometre scale, the nano-confinement effect and interfacial interactions become significant when describing the adsorption and transport phenomena of ions in the bulk microporous carbon. In this thesis, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry was used to characterize ions incorporated into microporous multilayered graphene membranes. The obtained insights provide understanding of ion adsorption and dynamics in microporous carbon and offer new opportunities for applications such as supercapacitors, batteries, and water desalination.
