This paper sets out to clarify the confusion surrounding what Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is by classifying three types of IPTV Computer Based IPTV, Partial IPTV and Full IPTV. By analysing the benefits and pitfalls of each classification a picture emerges surrounding the rich potential to develop additional services for Full IPTV when delivered over a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network. Australia's commitment to invest in a FTTP National Broadband Network (NBN) offers the prospect of Australia becoming leading innovator in this field. Copyright 2010 Jeremy Weinstein.
