This thesis presents wind tunnel investigations of the effects of free stream turbulence and surface roughness on the lift(cross-wind) forces experienced by circular cylinders. The principle aim of the investigation has been to extend the knowledge of lift at high Reynolds numbers and to examine the changes caused by free stream turbulence and surface roughness. The objective is to provide data that can be used to improve the prediction theory for the response of circular structures in atmospheric wind flows.[...]
