Babies developing inside the womb require oxygen and nutrients to grow. When these factors are limited, fetal growth and the development is impaired. At birth FGR infants are smaller, sicker and have lifelong complications. Efforts to treat growth restriction before birth and after delivery have currently been unsuccessful. My PhD has investigated the cardiovascular differences between the FGR and normal baby, aiming to understand the differences in their physiology and how we can use this information to guide the application of therapies both before and after birth.
