Geosynthetic clay liners are an important part of hydraulic barrier systems of waste containment facilities. However, their behaviour under extreme conditions (i.e., high temperatures and confining stresses) is not well understood. This thesis develops an understanding of the mechanisms governing moisture migration between geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) and subsoils under extreme conditions.
