This thesis presents novel computational techniques for analysing the optical response of nano scale systems using classical electromagnetism and quantum mechanics. It also uses these techniques and others to analyse such systems and discovers extremely useful results regarding the optical response of various systems including nano-tori(doughnut shaped particles). It also presents a thorough analysis of the optics of two nano-spheres placed close to each other, with a general treatment extensible to other more complex setups.
