This thesis investigates the B cells involved in the production of antivenom antibodies in horses, with the aim of isolating and characterising antibodies capable of neutralising venom toxins. Applying immunology and molecular techniques used in other systems, there was progress in identifying equine B cells, isolating their unique antibody genes, and producing these antibodies. Altogether, this work acts as a stepping stone towards a greater understanding of the development of antivenom antibodies, and potentially towards an improved antivenom against snake venom.
