CAD and digital technologies in development of new aesthetics for jewellery and small objects

This project investigates contemporary figurations of the Jungian archetype of the trickster. Through my research into various trickster characters, this figure has come to symbolise and highlight changes in contemporary society with a particular emphasis on current technology in the field of jewellery. The digital process of design (CAD) is employed to explore a personal vocabulary of these figures and to investigate the transformations in terms of the meaning that they are given within contemporary cultural contexts. This project aims to assist in re-evaluating traditional jewellery techniques and processes and to highlight a contemporary context for technological advances against a background of stagnation in attitudes towards technological advances in contemporary jewellery-making.
