This thesis examines the medicinal effects of porcupine dates, a traditional medicine used by Asian Chinese to treat against various diseases including cancer. It provides an overview on the possible medicinal values of porcupine dates in treating cancers and inflammatory related diseases using laboratory models. Tannin compounds were identified as the active compound in porcupine date, which have good activity especially against colon cancer cell lines. Further studies can help to exploit their medicinal usage in treatment of colon cancer.
