The director of the Hellenic Studies Program at Princeton University until seven years ago when he retired has done much to make Greek poetry known. His exemplar translations of Kostantinos Cavafy, George Seferis, Agelos Sikelianos, Giannis Ritsos and Odysseas Elytis helped to establish a reputation in English speaking countries of the great Greek poetry of the 20th century. |
