Agentic Voices

thesis

This research found that most early childhood educators do not sing organically, without synthesised recordings, and therefore musical miseducation occurs. Many educators develop an “I don’t sing” identity; a cycle that they then perpetuate. My first apparently paradoxical directive to these educators is to STOP SINGING SONGS. To learn to sing tunefully, one must experience a ‘rebirth’ of the voice. Through reflective babble or ‘vocal doodling’ daily, educators experienced aural-kinaesthetic feedback and gained musical self-efficacy. Through reflection, they built attunement and trust in their own musical abilities alongside their children.
