The thesis comprised three inter-related studies that explored gambling among older adults. A systematic review of the literature to establish the prevalence and determinants of gambling disorder; determining the extent and correlates of gambling and gambling problems among older adults in Singapore and the third study explored the initiation, maintenance and consequences of gambling in this population using a qualitative approach. The three inter-related studies established that the prevalence of gambling as well as gambling disorder was significant among older adults. The qualitative analysis illustrated the diversity of the experiences of the participants in the study who had different motivations for gambling.
