Cobb, Mia Louise An examination of attitudes and kennel management practices relating to the welfare of working dogs. This thesis explores how people value the welfare of dogs and what they think is important to the welfare of dogs living in kennels. This research shows that young working dogs find training kennel facilities to be stressful. Access to an enrichment program did not increase stress and may help young working dogs to complete their training. The research also identified better ways to measure stress in dog welfare research using salivary cortisol. The thesis proposes that assuring the public that working dogs have good welfare will be important to the sustainability of relevant industries.
