Processing xylan rich residues to produce prebiotic- xylooligosaccharides SINGHRAMKRISHNA 2019 The thesis presents work related to value-addition of residues obtained from agricultural and allied practices to produce a health-relevant product, a prebiotic. The prebiotic (Xylooligosaccharide) acts as food for beneficial gut bacteria and has putative health benefits. A chemical based and an alternative green process was studied to produce a low degree of polymerisation XOS. The in-vitro fermentation of produced XOS using human faeces and bacterium (Lactobacillus) supported the prebiotic potential.
