Structuring Potentials: Sculpture as Apparatus SOPHIE CLAIRE TAKACH 10.26180/5d37d4b829373 https://bridges.monash.edu/articles/thesis/Structuring_Potentials_Sculpture_as_Apparatus/8988359 This exegesis investigates the capacity of sculpture to make imperceptible forces perceptible to an audience. Drawing on the philosophy of Gilbert Simondon and his notion of information as a structuring force that modifies or alters bodies in response to changing conditions, together with analysis of artworks by Aram Bartholl, Cameron Robbins and Joyce Hinterding, I identify complementary modes in which sculpture can produce awareness of subtle influences within a specific location. Interactions with the sculpture are framed as exchanges that shape bodies through an alteration of the positions and the perspectives of those encountering the artwork. 2019-07-24 03:47:02 sculpture sculptural forming Gilbert Simondon apparatus information Art
