NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF PARTICLE SEGREGATION IN SANDPILE AND VIBRATED SYSTEMS DIZHE ZHANG 10.26180/5d2d3d5ed100e https://bridges.monash.edu/articles/thesis/NUMERICAL_INVESTIGATION_OF_PARTICLE_SEGREGATION_IN_SANDPILE_AND_VIBRATED_SYSTEMS/8872793 This thesis presents a comprehensive numerical study of the granular segregation in piling processes and vibrated systems. The research is carried with the help of a DEM model developed for ellipsoids. The simulation studies and associated analysis have elevated the triggering mechanisms of the segregation behavior to a new level where the observed segregation can be interpreted in both microscopic and macroscopic views. Furthermore, the adoption of ellipsoids largely demonstrates the effects of particle shape which significantly shortens the distance between scientific researches and real industrial issues. 2019-07-16 02:58:37 vibration-induced segregation numerical simulation sandpile segregation particle technology Powder and Particle Technology Simulation and Modelling
