Mindfulness Meditation and Resilience Building in Immigrant Communities KABIRRAKSHINDA AKHTER 2019 The aim of this thesis was to understand the post-migration stressors that immigrants from diverse backgrounds experience in Australia and the coping strategies they use to manage their stressors. Additionally, this thesis explored whether learning mindfulness meditation would be useful for developing resilience to counter post-migration stress. The findings from the research suggested that perceived experiences of stressors such as microaggressions, language barriers and cultural differences can contribute to perceptions of exclusion. Data from a pilot program suggested that learning mindfulness skills may have potential for improving subjective well-being of immigrants in Australia.
