Energy shortage and growing environmental pollution are among the humanity's greatest challenges. Technology to directly convert solar energy into chemical energy has been regarded as one of the most promising sustainable and clean energy sources. Significant efforts have been made to search for materials that can achieve high energy conversion. So far, titanium dioxide / metal system and titanium dioxide / graphene system are among the most studied materials. This Ph.D. dissertation aims to address some of the disadvantages observed in these systems by designing an unique structure based on titanium dioxide/ metal /graphene system with high energy conversion.
