Modulation of Muscarinic Acetylcholine Receptors in Ethanol-seeking Behaviours BERIZZIALICE ESTHER 2018 The M5 muscarinic receptor is a protein that can regulate the compulsive use of abused drugs, including cocaine and morphine, and therefore has emerged as an interesting drug target for the treatment of alcohol use disorders. Until recently, drugs that selectively target the M5 muscarinic receptor have been lacking. This thesis sought to identify and understand how selective drugs for the M5 muscarinic receptor act and their utility in models of alcohol use disorders.
